VOCAL-NY CONDEMNS POLICE KILLING OF WIN ROZARIO

VOCAL-NY Reiterates Demand for the Immediate Removal of NYPD from Mental Health Calls and the Passage of Daniel’s Law

NEW YORK — In response to recently released body camera footage showing the police murder of Win Rozario, VOCAL-NY released the following statement, attributable to Civil Rights Union leader Danyta Jefferson:

“This shit makes my blood boil! Another example of why the police should not be first responders in a mental health scenario. Peers and professionals could have deescalated this matter and had they been allowed to respond this young man would still be alive today.

The footage shows that those cops were nowhere near a dangerous crossroads where they needed to fire their weapons. They need to be fired and indicted. Daniel’s Law has to be passed.”
