As VOCAL-NY has done since day one of Governor Cuomo’s administration, we kept up pressure on him to extend the income tax surcharge on high earners, also known as the “millionaire’s tax,” this past Friday in order to address New York’s revenue crisis.
During what was expected to be the final big day of budget negotiations, VOCAL-NY members spoke with media about the impact of cuts on poor and disabled New Yorkers. When Governor Cuomo finally appeared to speak with reporters about the status of budget negotiations and reiterated his opposition to extending the millionaire’s tax, we challenged his assertion that he was seeking a “people’s budget” and chanted “Put People First, Not Millionaires.”
