We joined Council Member and General Welfare Committee Chair Annabel Palma, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and more than a dozen of their colleagues from City Council on March 24th to oppose deep cuts to social services contained in Mayor Bloomberg’s preliminary FY12 budget proposal.
Wayne Starks, a VOCAL-NY leader and Board member, spoke out against more than $10 billion in proposed cuts to supportive housing and access to public benefits for low-income people living with HIV/AIDS. Wayne spoke about his past experience with homelessness, how his supportive housing case manager helped give him stability and better access to healthcare, and how his HASA caseworker helped him fix problems with Medicaid.
